Christmas in July 2009
Thursday 23 July
Home Care held their first annual celebration night at the Wodonga TAFE restaurant, The Valleys.
Manager Sandra Wiltshire welcomed 60 guests to the evening. Huge and Jenny Elford were our guests of Honour. We had 2 board members there with their partners, and several agencies represented. This was great because it meant that the case managers were able to meet with the staff who directly provide care for their clients.
The meal was fantastic, Honey roasted pumpkin soup, Roasted garlic and tomato soup. A huge meal of 3 different roast meats and 7 vegetables, followed by Steamed Christmas pudding or Apple, berry port and cranberry Crumble with trimmings.
The room was set up with 2 long tables, lovely leather chairs, the tables showed off the Christmas theme, with a nice warm fire in the back ground.
It was great to meet all the partners of the staff, after all I seem to speak with them very often over the year.
There were only 2 speeches. Huge spoke of how Kirinari was born. There were many comments about how interesting it was to hear that about Kirinari. I spoke about how the service has grown and that we are now doing care for a lot more children, even working with the Royal Children's Hospital, and an increase in providing over night care.
This night was a tiny way of saying thank you to all the wonderful staff who have put in over the year. Home Care would not be able to grow as it has if it wasn't for the dedicated staff who are happy to pick up services at a drop of a hat.
Margaret Ratclife, Maureen Dawson, Trish Mitchem, Debbie Lee, Joan O'Neill and Alison Press were all congratulated with a framed service award and a $50 voucher of their choice. All of these staff have been with Kirinari in excess of 5 years. This is a new way of Kirinair Home Care appreciating their loyalty to us.
The TAFE staff were clearing the tables at 9.15pm with some guests still talking, and finishing up their coffees and after dinner chocolates.
A great night was had by all.

Kirinari has contracted to purchase a new property as part of its' upgrade of group homes in the Wodonga area. The house will replace the 1940's building in South Street Wodonga. Supervisor Kate Polmear said "I believe that the resident's will benefit from moving to this house as they will be closer to shops." Kate said, "The people will also be closerto services that they access, their independence will increase dramatically as they will be closer to doctors, dentists, chemists, banks, shops, optometrists, the library, etc."
CEO Gary Roberts said ". . this house will provide excellent accommodation for the residents for many years to come".
Following a long standing request from Department of Human Services (Vic) Kirinari purchased recently built house in Wodonga for the residents of Hodge Street, Albury. Kirinari completed a number of modifications to the house and the residents were able to move in before Christmas.

October 2008
Relay For Life
October 25 th and 26 th of October 2008
A team of 19 fit and energetic Kirinari employees signed up for this fun and fund raising weekend. Relay For Life is a world wide event to raise money for cancer research.
After setting up the tent and having our first coffee fix, the weekend started with on opening ceremony for all the wonderful survivors and carers of this dreaded disease. This was this first year that we have had a team stay over night. It is the best time to walk around the Raiders Oval at 3.00am in the morning, trust me.
The highlight of the weekend was the twilight service where the oval was light up by tee candles which were light by everyone in memory of loved ones who have lost their life to cancer.
Our team was a combination of staff from Home Care, the corporate office and Donna who supports people in the outreach side of the organization.
Our goal was to raise $1000.00. With some great work from the team, we raised nearly $1500.00. The weekend raised $199000.00 over all. There are lots of ideas for next year flowing in already. Lets aim for a few teams next year!!!!!
We are very pleased to announce that construction has recently commenced for a purpose built house on land at Bella Vista , Sydney . Following some delays with approvals from Baulkham Hills Council, Huxley Homes has cleared the site ready for commencement of a 5 bedroom house. The design was also provided by Huxley Homes with master designer Eric Bonomo taking a special interest in the project. Eric has designed many homes for disability service providers and his expertise in the industry is acknowledged. The building has been designed around the NSW Government's Design Standards for Group Homes.
The residents from Lang Road Kenthurst will be invited to move into the new house, in late January, depending on weather conditions and building supplies. The land purchase and construction has been made possible with a special grant from Department of Ageing, Disability and Home Care.
